Building the Future of Civil Engineering at George Mason University
Mission Statement
The George Mason University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) connects students with the civil engineering profession through hands-on competitions, industry networking, professional development, and community service. We prepare tomorrow's civil engineers to become leaders who will shape our built environment.
What We Do
ASCE at GMU offers students opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. Our chapter provides:
Professional Development: Network with industry professionals, attend technical presentations, and gain real-world insights into civil engineering careers through our annual Career Fair and guest speaker events.
Technical Competitions: Represent GMU in regional and national competitions, including Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, Sustainable Solutions, and more. These hands-on challenges allow you to apply classroom knowledge while competing against teams from across the country.
Leadership Opportunities: Develop leadership skills through our executive board positions and internship positions. Our student officers gain valuable experience in event planning, budget management, corporate relations, and team coordination.
Community Impact: Give back through volunteer projects and outreach programs that connect civil engineering with local schools, governments, and community organizations.
Career Support: Access exclusive scholarships, internship opportunities, job postings, and mentorship connections with practicing engineers in the field.
